Crawford Notch Trip 2008
Very cool picture! This came to me by way of Denneth Lee who received it from Paul at North Conway Scenic.
Keep em Blooming as long as you can.
Geraniums and Hibiscus seem to love to grow all year long. I just bring them inside and they do very well. Of course they are to dirty for the upstairs so they hang around the basement near the walk out area which gets pretty good sun. Even the water plants that the fish like to eat last for quite a long time. I hate to see the cold outdoors kill all the plants, so this way I get to enjoy some of them all year long.

When a body meets a body
Have you walked the trails behind the Churchill's lately? Be sure you take someone along (who's still alive). Word has it that Pat and Carl, and Mac McLaughlin, have heard strange noises coming from the forest late at night, and that they've taken groups of Buxton kids with them to see what they can find. Would you like to go along? Check with the Churchill's before Halloween, if you dare.
Ready for 2010
Someone told me the world was going to end in 2012 (blame it on the Aztec Indians I think) so I figured I'd better hurry up and get going on my expansion project. If everything survives the test of winter and spring brings no major problems I will be eagerly working on laying track and planting shrubs. I have put in some bulbs so that it will be fun to see what if anything actually comes up. Of course I have great expectations that it will look just like the picture on the box. But that is the fun of having a child like mind.

Why you Never throw water on a grease fire
OK this is not train related but it is dramatic. A 30 second video about the danger of a common kitchen fire is worth seeing and remembering. At Fire Fighting Training school they would demonstrate this with a deep fat fryer set on the fire field. An instructor would don a fire suit and using an 8 oz cup at the end of a 10 foot pole toss water onto the grease fire The results got the attention of the students. The water, being heavier than oil, sinks to the bottom where it instantly becomes superheated. The explosive force of the steam blows the burning oil up and out. On the open field, it became a thirty foot high fireball that resembled a nuclear blast. Inside the confines of a kitchen, the fire ball hits the ceiling and fills the entire room.

US Army #190 - kind of a nice video clip. Not from this part of the Country, but hard to tell from the foliage. It looks New England like to me. To Watch - click here:

Train Wreck Movie Photos
The Movie named the UNSTOPPABLE - The drama involves an unmanned runaway train that is carrying a cargo of toxic chemicals. An engineer and his conductor find themselves in a race against time.
************************************These are from a friend of 'tiny' Lee of a movie that is being made currently. He made the following comments: For those who are not from this area of Pa., This is a movie part of which is being filmed in Emporium called "Unstoppable".

The black camera car is a Porsche and I was told that it is worth around a million bucks.
They used a special attachment used to snag the cable that caused the wreck.
Take a look at the underside of the mockups and note the muffler. They used a semi chassis as the drive unit.

Thank You Note From Maine Veterans Home
Pat and Carl Churchill recently received the following note of appreciation from the Maine Veterans Home:
September 14, 2009
Thanks again for another great summer. The residents enjoy the backyard atmosphere! It is so relaxing to them, and you just make their day! You always have such great people to have conversations with our veterans, and they get a kick out of going in the woods for a trail ride.
You are the best. Not everyone will open their backyard for such a large group of visitors.
It is amazing what you have done with your garden and buildings. The trains going through are the best.
Thanks for having us. We thoroughly enjoyed every visit. Thanks from the residents of the Maine Veterans Home, as well as the staff and volunteers.

Portland Model Railroad and Hobby Show
Portland's first train show in several years was held on October 3. A number of MGRS members turned out for the event. Manning the tables were Chris Libby, Walter Fossett, Jr., Carl Churchill, John Jackson, and Scott Gould. Pictured above is MGRS member Gerry Smith in front of the society's train table. In the picture below, Grace Miller discusses trains with Carl Churchill (or maybe a fish she caught), while Chris Libby and John Jackson look on. Also visiting the show were MGRS members Sue and Terry Norton, Betty Norton, Hunk Erskine, Richard Cosgrove, Ivan Smith, Ray Parent, Ernie Packard, and Dick Clark.
