East Coast Large Scale Train Show

This past weekend four members of the MGRS visited the East Coast Large Scale Train Show in York, Pennsylvania.  When Carl Churchill, Norm Waycott, Terry Norton, and Scott Gould arrived in York last Thursday, the temperature was in the 70's, while southern Maine was getting snow.  Along the way the four visited Steamtown USA in Scranton, Pennsylvania.  Terry wanted to take a F3 home, but there was only room in Carl's monster pickup for a Reading Northern 4-8-4.  York itself was beautiful, as street trees in the historic downtown were all in bloom.  The downtown also has a train shop that is surely the most evocative of childhood memories in the country.   Here are some pictures of the trip, which concluded with a tour of Gettysburg, where Carl, Norm, and Terry posed by a monument on Little Round Top, where Joshua Chamberlain's charge did much to turn the tide of battle.

MGRS Participates at STRIVERocks Dance Day

The Maine Garden Railway Society was proud to participate in yesterday's STRIVEocks Dance Day 2016 in Portland.  STRIVE is a highly-regarded program in the Portland area for tweens, teens and young adults (11-24) with developmental disabilities.  The Dance Day is one of STRIVE's most popular events.  Carl Churchill, Terry Norton, and Brian Saunders were present from setup until closing (and were given autographed pictures by cheerleaders at the show).  Sam Carr, John Middleton, and Scott Gould assisted, but missed out on the pictures.  Pictured here is Brian Saunders posing with miniature goats and running the Thomas train.  Thanks to all who were involved.
