2010 Central Vermont Garden Show

Here is an interesting slide show that has pictures of VTGRS as they build a large layout on the floor for the Central Vermont Garden Show. The show was just completed April 24 and 25 in Barre, Vermont. They used many interesting ideas with "flat water bridges" , lots of mulch and rocks to outline the layout. This was sent to us by Doug Johnson who keeps in good contact with VTGRS.
Thanks Doug!

Clear Water

I wish I had done this before our great grand children visited, but they arrived to quickly to prepare. So I spent yesterday cleaning out the grubby water garden pond. I am trying a new type of filter this year. The waterfall is good and strong because I added a second pump to it. It will never look as clean as it does right now and pretty soon the frogs and the fish and water plants will be calling it home for another season. (it looks a lot different then)

Family Reunion Weekend

Our Grandson Sam has returned from Afghanistan with the 32nd Transportation Co. to Ft. Carson, Colorado. He and the family were able to visit with us this weekend and we were able to see our Great Grandson (Samuel Jr.) for the first time! We had a great weekend with all the family in Maine and we even got to run some trains. Thomas and the duck carrier were the favorites.

Brandon & Me School Vac Week

Brandon having the week off from school; spent the night with us and we HAD to clear off a track and make a short run with WDW Limited. The mini-plants from Pat & Carl have weathered the winter great, as all have survived and grown. The Bug to work on the lay-out has struck; but so have the black flies. We will see who wins. My guess would be the insects.

The Bartlett Roundhouse

From Denneth Lee who sent us the new Web/Blog Site for the Bartlett Round House

"We are proud to be the stewards of these pieces of Maine Central history. (As you may recall, Portland Terminal was a jointly held asset of the MEC and the B&M, and was operated by MEC.) It is our hope to restore both of these items to their original appearance, so that future generations of railfans and history buffs can see first hand what type of equipment was used in New Hampshire and New England over the years. "

Little Big Horn

Check out the little engine with a big horn. You will probably recognize her. Click here to view:

Edaville No. 7

Edaville #7 struts her stuff over the Columbus Day weekend in 1996. This was a one-time appearence; she sat under lock and key for the next several years before being moved to the Maine Narrow Gauge museum in Portland.

Not a particularly "Glad" Morning

As I walked slowly toward the back window this morning my wife said 'don't look' . The struggling flower bulbs I had planted last fall were bent over and covered with snow. Most of it has melted by now and I do not know if the flowers will survive, but the Glads did not look happy. I was going to take a picture but decided to post this one from a couple of days ago. It was getting dark when I took it but at least they were standing up straight. Now big white flakes are coming down. It looks pretty and I guess I should be glad it is not coming from a volcano.

Who knows when

Pictured is the PCC Trolley that is under development by Aristo-Craft. I guess I will not hold my breath, but I would love to get one. Eric's post and picture prompted me to look this up again.

Duck on the track

We love looking out our back window. Our back yard gives us both a lot of enjoyment as we watch the daily routine of wildlife that has adapted to "the strange white headed animal" that is always out there puttering around. Last night the ducks stopped by as usual. The male standing at attention (this time on the track) as lady duck hopped in the water garden to take a bath! I have been outside working on track just out of site in the foreground when I turn around the ducks are standing there looking at me like 'what are you doing?'

By the way

I could not remember the name of the electrical conductive grease that we use for rail joiners and those tiny little miserable screws that hold the track together. So here is a picture of it.

Big Green

Milford Big Green
04:24 - 1 year ago
One complete loop on the NHGRS Big Green Module Layout on March 15, 2009 at the Milford NHGRS/Lions Train Show.

(I know at least 4 MGRS members went to this show last year. I just ran across this on their web site and thought it was good. I had never seen a video of the complete loop before. Nice job NHGRS).

F. W. Woolworth Co.

Hi folks, We have both been sick, but now we are back! And, I am making silly posts again. A wave of nostalgia overcame me as I looked at this authentic F. W. Woolworth C0. counter menu from 1957. It is right up there with the icons of the fifties along with Lionel trains. Click on the menu and hopefully it will appear big enough to read. Remember and Enjoy.
