Well, I'm going to start out a bit early - so go ahead and give me 'hell' if you want to.
Barry, I have heard from several people, especially those who missed your workshop on 'decals', that they would like you to do a modeling tips on decals (including pics) for the website. Are you 'game'?
I think that would be of some help to quite a few of us
Hi Ray and Ed, I waiting for Barry
Waiting for what - his response?
OK, Is the chat supposed to be here or at the Google chat?
Yes, I thought he was on the blog. Someone else just tried to contact me on a chat, who was that?
Well, time a wasting, so maybe we need to get onto a new topic(s)... Suggestions?
Tonight i thought we are trying it here. on comments
No offense but doing it this way is painful.
That was my understanding also...
Ed, what do you find particularly painful?
OK, so how do you do it? I can't see your responses without getting out and coming back in!
Try simply hitting the refresh button on your browser...
My problem is it does not 'refresh' and it is a hard to get used to.
OK!
Sorry Barry is still at a meeting. As soon as he gets back I will put him on. that is if it's before 9
You can also collapse the comments to just the name of the poster...
OK!
Collapsing the comments and hitting refresh seems the best way - agreed
Yes, but that seems to be an archaic way to do a chat, No OFFENSE!
Ray speaking of decals my white reefer Cars arrived today - I am ready to try some decaling tomorow
John,
Anyway to address Ed 'archaic' description?
John,
Are those the white cars from eBay or from Carl?
Ed - we were just going to try it out this way. Maybe tomorrow some of us can test Google Talk chat and maybe we can use that after we show people how to use it
How many people can use Google Talk at once?
Ray those wee from Ebay
I know this is a test, but if people have to keep shifting back and forth between "Collapsing" and "refreshing" and typing, it gets old real fast for those of us with short fuses!
OK we will put you down for a 'NO'
John,
Have you had a chance to check out the LSOL chat room yet for ideas on how to best do this?
Ed,
I didn't think that retired 'engineers' had short fuses...
I think Google Talk a Group Chat might be best - what do you think. LSOL has their own programming, not under Google like the web site or the blog
Hi guys
I guess I can not add any more to the comments, But wanted to just let you know I am here and trying to see what s going on.
Mr Deere (Ed)
I'm not familiar with Google's Group Chat. How does it work?
Ed Don't collape it just scroll up and down real fast
How do we know where to look for live comments? Just look for Wednesday Night Chat Blog?
Ray, nice article for the website. Hope Barry is looking, and agrees to provide a tip on decaling.
Hi Ed, I am glad you added your Logo today
Idealy you should be able to type and then see any response without the extra manipulations! This works but it's painful!
msilsby3Hi to everyone
I am with Ed on this being to hard to keep up with. I would like more info on the decaling as well.I can NOT vote off the poll and this blog is Locking out my system.Mike
I agree with John, I am no longer collapsing - just scrolling down to the most recent posts...
I agree do you want to do a little testing tomorrow on Gogle talk?
OK MIke thanks for trying we will get a better way to do this
Sure on the Google talk!
Even if you scroll down fast then you have to scroll back up to add a comment.
OK SCGRR Thanks I will send you an email tomorrow and we can go from there. Ray would you like to try this also ( a 3 way test)?
OK, I'm done complaining!
Bye!
Station Master,
You might want to consider some of the free chat software like:
http://www.volusion.com/livechat_download.asp
http://www.bravenet.com/webtools/chat/
John,
I will be out of town all day tomorrow - sorry.
Sure - When did you find those, do you know anything about it they would work on the blog or web site?
John,
Interestingly, in spite of the frustrations and limits of this approach, we still have succeeded in getting 43 post!
Hi guys
There is at least interest in trying this. I do think if a different format is found this could be a great media for us.
Mr Deere (Ed)
John,
Is the procedure to post a comment, then hit refresh every few seconds to follow subsequent comments? Or should new comments appear automatically?
I just looked them up now in Google search as people were sharing their frustrations with this approach...
Ray - OK I can look at some of those two links you sent me. And we still might like Google chat but I never tried it ibn a 'group' mode so wwe realy do need at least 3 to test
Scott,
I believe that you need to hit the refresh button...
Hi Scott you do have to hit refresh
Very refreshing way to spend a rainy evening.
I appoligise to all the people who get emails I forgot to take everyones name off of that feature before the blog chat started . . sorry
Thank you Scott - You win the only positive comment award!
Good night to all. Thanks for the experiment, John.
Scott
Hey Scott did you ever build your tunnel?
Hey John
Your forgiven. This time!
Mr Deere (Ed)
New Topic - What do you think of having a feature either on the blog or website where members could list the 3-5 most unique characteristics of their layouts?
Thanks SCGRR The Deere's Ray Mike Scott for our first attempt , ,, and Barry thanks you started this.
John it was fun and it will improve
I think John should get an award for generating the most commentsto a blog
Sounds reasonable why not post a real blog for more feedback?
I was answering Ray, but thanks Mike!
John,
How do I keep my email from receiving all of our blog comments (which are going to take forever to delete)?
Thanks,
Scott
I like Ray,s idea too!
Also someone needs to send a new photo of the month to Ray and the web-site.
Mr Deere (Ed)
John,
I need to sign off and go delete all of my new e-mail entrees from the blog!
Nice job, John, for a first attempt. You certainly have generated a bunch of energy from a few devoted MRGS members...
Good night all.
till next time.
Keep your trains on the tracks
And your hand on the throttle
