Waterblogged

Sad to say that the Muscongus and Penobscot Railroad in Weld has been brought to a standstill this summer by "Olde Mom Nature". Due to the late snow melt (middle of May), and 38 inches of rain since the beginning of june to this writing (still raining) we have only been able to run trains on two days, July 18 and July 26. Needless to say, the train running season has been a washout so far and garden maintenance has been a fulltime chore . Certainly hope that the later half of August and the autumn see a major shift in the weather patterns or the line may have to be embargoed until next year! Hope you are not all experiencing the amazing amount of water we are. Keep the faith and the trains will run again! One positive sign was that with all this extreme weather, when we did run trains on those two days, all it took was a brief track cleaning and everything operated flawlessly.

Oh, Ted - How sad but true.
It has been about as poor a season as you could have. Carl was lucky, he has one of the few great days that we had!
like you say, lets hope it will get better. And, by the way, It is great to see you on the Blog!
thanks, John

Agreed, John, it's nice to see Ted on the Blog.

Rain - what rain? It's been so sunny here in Portland, that we're facing near-drought conditions! Just kidding!!!

I'm not sure that we've received quite as much as you have, though. But enough is enough! In fact we have received so much rain in Portland that one of my neighbors is now considering building an Ark - full scale of course...

And the other day I overheard someone suggesting that we change our name to Seattle!

While the sun was out today, we were able to visit Ed Smith's layout in Kittery. He's accomplished quite a bit in one year, and he is currently working on a double rail 85" Thru Arch Bridge. It looks quite impressive.

So I guess there are advantages to all the rain - it gives us more time to build things indoors!
