Make that seventeen figures. Mammy and Pappy Yokum are hidden by other characters.
Hi Scott, Nice picture of a fine looking tree and train. I can only remember Daisy Mae and (I just said it and forgot the guys name from Dog Patch) Plus Popeye and Olive Oil.

So while I was at supper, after a few bytes my neurons re-connected and I blurted out "Little Abner".
Plus after another look I recognize Blondie and Dagwood and "Sweat Pea".
Looks like someone from the Captain and Kids, but I don't remember his name. OK, I am all done, thanks!
The Katzenjammer Kids? I don't think Marx ever made them, John. There are two other characters from the Dagwood strip. There's one more in the Popeye group. Think hamburgers. To the right of Popeye's group are two figures from a strip called Bringing Up Father. The group on the far right includes three figures from one strip and one from Dick Tracy.
Mike, it's just a light bulb on the train and a dirty lens on the camera.

Scott's question 'Do you remember the 1950 comics?' effected my dream stage last night. I remember two large comic sections (Boston Globe & Herald) Purely from memory. One had Dick Tracy (Crime Stoppers Textbook)which I never cut out. Little Orphan Annie, (nobody had eyes), Mark Trail, The Phantom and the back page had Prince Valiant.
I think the Globe had Mutt & Jeff.
Those are the main one that I remember from the Fifties.
Wow, I have trouble remembering the 50's comics, since I was so young! Was that before TV or the Internet? Maybe I should ask Al Gore... Al, are you there?
John, I'd forgotten Mutt & Jeff. Remember Major Hoople, or Alley Oop? Imagine what Ray missed.
The figures in the picture are, from left to right, Dagwood, Blondie, their son Alexander, and Daisy (right you are Ray); the pig from Little Abner (nameless?), Daisy Mae, Little Abner; Sweetpea, Olive Oil, Popeye, and Wimpy (right again, Ray); Maggie & Jiggs (from Bring Up Father); Snuffy Smith, Zut Tattersail, and Jughaid (all from Barney Google); and finally, (leaning) B. O. Plenty from Dick Tracy.
Ahh yes . . . B.O. Plenty. They had some great character names! Thanks Scott, that was fun. Sorry Ray, you missed the Best Decade there was to grow up in.

Actually I didn't miss it totally - I was a big fan of Davy Crockett and had most of his 'stuff'...
